The Biggest Winner Day 19: Oh so many stairs

I can’t believe it’s been 19 days since I started training with the Biggest Winner program. It truly feels like we’ve just began and it’s almost over. I really am sad about it, but I’m really happy that I put in the work to write about my experiences every day. I hope I haven’t bored you to death.

Before I go into all the fun from today, I’d like to start with my small joy in the morning. Last Friday, I weighed in at 264. I’ve been stuck on this number for quite a while now and it’s really annoying. I know I’ve lost inches and that’s great but DAMN IT I want to see a 25 number on there.

Today I weighed in at 262. Two more pounds gone (yay) and 3 more to go. I’m hoping to lose that 3 before Saturday. It just might be able to do it. I’m keeping low on the carbs and putting in some extra time at the gym. Fingers crossed I see a 25 number for my finale. I will literally be jumping with joy!

So back to the focus of this post – what happened today.

I started on my favorite elliptical while waiting until 7am. I got a nice rhythm and burn going as a warm up and I was pretty happy with it. I logged just under 20 minutes before Jackson pulled us to start working out.

We started on the stairs today. Oh the stairs. Divided in two groups, we each took a flight of stairs and round and round we went. Timing at approximately 30 second intervals (ish), we ran and walked the stairs. This went on for (I think) around 10 minutes.

Next we headed over to the gym where Jackson planned a circuit. There were three stations (two groups again) and we repeated exercises for various timed intervals.

Round 1
Squat medicine ball toss-up a wall
– Jump rope
– Bicep curls with TRX

We stayed at our station for 3 reps – 50 seconds, 40 seconds and 30 seconds with 10 second rests. Round 2 was the same with different exercises.

Round 2
Running touches at three points in the gym.
– Burpees with the half ball thingy (I really need to learn the name of it)
– Push ups and roll outs with the TRX

Commence dripping sweat. I’m fairly certain I left a puddle somewhere in the gym!

But wait…. there’s more!

Next we headed out to the machines in the gym. In pairs, two were on the bike with the fan (he called it something but I don’t know what), two were on the recumbent bike and two were on the nu step. For approximately 5 minutes we did 30 second sprints with 15 second recovery. Then switched and repeated until we went through all three machines.

We stretched and called it a day. What a day it was.

I’m heading back tonight to take Zumba and Kickboxing. I haven’t done a double class in a while and certainly not after I already had well over an hour of cardio / strength this morning. Here’s praying I actually SURVIVE the double class!

I’m losing my bingo arms!

Well, now that I have your attention – I simply had to use that as my headline since that’s what my (loving) husband told inspirationme tonight … not once, but twice.

It’s been a very interesting day in the life of me. Work was great – a very productive day. I left at 2:30 pm to go to my 3 p.m. Physical Therapy evaluation for my knee. My therapist and doctor are both extremely optimistic that my knee will heal with therapy so (fingers crossed). Thankfully, I’m doing therapy at my gym so it’s works for everything else I need to do. Therapy ended at about 4 p.m. and I headed over to meet with the director of the personal training department who was kind enough to give me time to come up with the money for the Biggest Winner competition. We chatted for a while about various topics and I really enjoyed meeting with her.

Next up was my nutrition appointment with Jackie (who I adore) – if you’re keeping track… I’ve already been at the gym for 2 hours at this point. I know I’m doing a great job with my eating habits, but having Jackie there by my side for questions and guidance is sure great. I don’t know what I’d do without her.

During my nutrition appointment, Jackie mentioned that I should come to her Drop 10 in 10 class and talk sometime because she thought I’m such an inspiration and motivational speaker. I was shocked and honored honestly. Ironically, the class was meeting tonight (at 6 p.m.) for the last time until next year. Well – no time like the present! After our appointment,  I grabbed a 30 minute workout and then headed over to the class.

Love meIt’s really funny. I never set out to be an inspiration to other people, it just sort of happened naturally. Now that I’ve been blogging and sharing my story, I guess i can sort of see how people have taken an interest in my life. I have a great story and I’m a natural story-teller so it all works.

So I stuck around tonight for the meeting and Jackie gave me a few minutes to just tell my story – and that’s exactly what I did. The women, who I’m guessing were all older than me, seemed genuinely interested in my story. They had questions and I did my best to have answers. I wasn’t really prepared, but it truly felt natural and honestly – I loved it.

Tonight was another step on my journey to changing my life and I’m realizing more and more that while my body has ultimately changed, it’s my whole self that has made the change. I truly believe that’s the true battle of weight loss. It’s a mindset you have to commit to and when you do, the rest will change with it.

Sure, I’ve become a bit obsessive with my weight loss and staying on track but it’s all for the good of my health. The real me is finally emerging and I’m truly loving it!

The evils of work potluck lunches

I’m still very new to my employer (like less than a month) and they’re all about throwing a party when someone starts. There’s two new people and one that’s leaving so a pot luck was in order – the evil being was today.

Now these people know how to party. The kitchen was overflowing with amazing goodies … and a dieting disaster. I’m only a few days into this whole new me and to be honest, the will power was slowly fading with each new thing brought in and it started this morning with breakfast goodies.

So far today, I’ve nibbled on apple slices with a cream cheese dip (only a couple) and a small (VERY SMALL) serving of corn bread with fresh strawberries. This afternoon when all the food came out, i exercised a lot of caution in what I choose. Thankfully, there was a lot of things I wouldn’t eat so my options decreased greatly. I was hoping to nab a homemade pierogi.. but those were long gone. Probably for the best though.

My lunch ended up being a very small sliver of a sandwich. I cut the pre-cut portion in half. A small serving of pasta salad (that my husband made), a small spoonful of some kind of vegetable seasoned side dish. I don’t know what it was but it was yummy. Grilled veggies and seasoning with a sprinkle of cheese, I think. I also had a very small brownie to appease my chocolate monster.

I kept the portions small and realistic. I don’t think I went too overboard and hopefully i did well. It’s really hard to be a food addict and stare at a kitchen full of treats. I did well curbing the hunger monster though and right now I feel really good about my choices. Sure, I could have done without the brownie but I just can’t go from sugar fiend to nothing in one day. I need to live in reality… no one breaks a 30 year habit in one day.

At least I know I can burn a ton of calories tonight at Saddle Ridge. Really looking forward to an evening with great friends celebrating me getting older! Here’s to being 30 and fabulous!
